I am happy to report that my surgery on July third went really well. I spent one night in the hospital and, after a stellar report from the surgeon, I was discharged on the fourth. Amy and I spent a night in a nearby hotel for two reasons. One, car travel was uncomfortable for me so soon after my procedure, and two, if I needed to return to the hospital for any reason, we were close by. We traveled back to our home in Salem the following day. I wasn’t in much pain to speak of and recovery went smoothly. Several days later I received good news when the pathologist called to tell me there was no cancer found in any of the lymph nodes! This means that there should be no need for further treatment. I have been taking it easy and spending a lot of time in my recliner. After four weeks I was released to begin exercising again. I plan to take it slow and ease back into my old routine over the course of several weeks. Amy and I feel so blessed to have you all praying for me. Thank you for your many cards of encouragement. I thank God for you all and for answering our prayers for healing.
It is a good feeling to know that there are men to fill the pulpit in my absence. Several different brothers have been preaching during my recovery. Andy Wheeler, Cecil Garrison, Tony Pirtle, and Michael Gray each took a turn in the pulpit. God has blessed our little congregation here with capable brethren who are always ready to serve. Whether that means leading songs, prayers, serving on the Lord’s table, preaching, or doing various jobs “behind the scenes,” I am impressed with this small group of Christians. Praise the Lord!
I resumed my study with Connor Brinkman, who had gotten my information from the QR code on my car. We have had three studies thus far. We have been studying through 1 Peter and it is going well. He seems to be open to what the word says and so I am hopeful that this study will be fruitful. Please keep praying for him.
God has blessed the congregation in Cedar City, Utah with a new preacher! Many congregations throughout Utah are without full-time men to fill the pulpit. Thank the Lord for another preacher in the state! I look forward to meeting him and his family in the near future.
